tread life...what in the world??
OK, guys hear me out for a bit....I constantly read these posts about how people are only getting 6-10,000 miles per their set of tires, specially rears....I just don't get it.
I have 10,000 on my car...have plenty (60-70%) tread left on the rear tires and at least that much if not more on the front ones. I drive my car hard
, do your ocasional spin tires and go...autox, a few drag events...and I just don't get it....
Does everyone have the S02's on their car....??? Right?
...just checking..
OK, let's get this started...how many miles did YOU get out of your tires, front and rear? How is your driving style....let's get to the bottom of this..NOW!!

There have been a few other reports of rears going 20K miles, but it's been more like 10K for most of us. IMO it's probably alignment. I had my car aligned shortly after I replaced my rears at 11K, and 12K later the replacements still have a bit of tread left. (Maybe another 3K worth.)
BTW, most of my driving is not particularly aggressive, though I have my moments...

Two points.
1) Tire wear SLOWS as the tread wears down..less squirm cuts heat a bit. In other words for constant weather and driving, you can't extrapolate remaining life at the same rate (miles per unit tread depth)as when the tires are new.
2) Lotsa vtec and corner exit oompth hurts tire wear (but is fun). An E36 M3 can go through rears pretty quickly with a lead foot but slowly with steady highway use.
