Default Tried to trade a 01 for a 02

This past weekend I tried to go to my local Honda dealership and trade my Silver 01 S for a white or yellow 02. Didn't happen. This place only had one S and they said they probably wouldn't get many more the rest of the year because of their low volume sales so they needed to sell it for as much as they could get. Needless to say, they wanted $36,000 for a new yellow S with absolutely nothing on it. They were gonna give me $26,000 for mine which is probably about right on a trade in.

I just wasn't too big a deal. I figure I can make a lot more on the car if I sell it myself. But I think I'll just keep it. Plastic rear window and all.

dude dealers will try to rape you every way they can....if you are serious, you might want to come to Topeka...you can get about $ 28-29 on trade and then negotiate on the price of your new one depending on options.....

why don't you just get a hardtop ?????? I can probably cut you a hell of a deal on the one I have since I have a new one coming from the dealership....maybe those wheels that you have...ejem...ejem..

Jaded-

I just sold my '01 private party and have my '02 coming in the next week or so. Consequently, I can apprecaite your situation.

If your serious about trading up, I strongly suggest you sell your car private party. I got a much better deal private party than I did trading in. It took less than two weeks for me to sell my car and it was pretty painless.

There's absolutely no reason that you should pay 1 penny over MSRP. I had to look around a bit, but I found a few dealers (even here in S. CA) willing to sell me the car I wanted, in the color I wanted (spa yellow), in the condition I wanted (fresh off the truck) at or slightly below MSRP. You have the added luxury of being outside of CA in that you can buy from any other state and not have to worry about the CARB bullcrap that we do. I strongly suggest you check the MSRP dealer section on the board and the group buy/sale forum. You'll find a plethora of choices.

Good luck.

Angel, I don't think you'd really want my wheels. They're way too heavy. I'm thinking of getting TE-37's all the way now. And I doubt your yellow hardtop would look good on my silver car. Maybe though. Are you getting another hardtop, or are you getting another car?

One thing that is sometimes overlooked, though - on a trade (at least in our state) you pay sales tax only on the difference, whereas on an outright purchase the entire amount is taxed. This can, in effect, reduce the "advantage" of selling it yourself by hundreds of dollars.

not in CA. the buyer pays 100% of the sales price of the car that you sell. You must turn around and eat 100% of the sales tax associated with whatever you buy yourself.

welcome to CA. we'll be glad to tax the living crap out of you while doing our best to ensure that your infrastructure and power supply are mis-managed about as bad as humanly possible. oops, better stop before i get political.

You know, in Missouri, you have about 30 days from the time you sell your car yourself to get a new car and get a sales tax credit on it just as you would if you traded it in. I would think they would have that rule where you're at too. I could be wrong.
