Too bad there's no such thing as an 01 SI.

02-05 SI's i-vtec comes on around 2500 but its not the same as traditonal vtec.

99-00 SI's vtec you could change but the lowest I've seen that is "benificial" is 4000-4500. But of course you'd need a EMS or vtec controller. Most times they do more "harm" than good, if you don't know what you're doing.

Wikipedia is your friend

Maybe your friend doesn't know what he is talking about and has a turbo

You can set your vtec to kick in whenever the hell you want with a vtec controller. However, you're very likely to lose power unless you tune it on a dyno.

I believe him. But I also think he's an idiot if he set it to kick in at 2500

If you set the vtec too low, no amount of tuning will help the loss of power and power making ability. vtec is set to make the engine more efficient across a wider range of rpms (0-8k, 0-9k), and basically should be in the middle of the range (5-6k, for example). setting your vtec at 2500 rpms is not going to do anything but hurt performance.

The very idea shows a total failure to understand VTEC, so all this kid has really done is expose his own ignorance.
