I remember reading on H-A that our engines are capable of "safely" reving to well above 10 grand.

Does anyone know if this is true? what is the MAX rpm this engine can spin to (when mechanically engaged) and not experience valve float?

Sorry I don't have an answer for your question, but always wonderd one thing. At what RPM, does the rev limitter kick in? I know it is above a little 9000. Anybody know?

Your max HP and torque is around 8600 though, right? Why over rev. No point - it's less power.

There are plenty of threads on the subject if you care to search them out.

Bottom line is that it is always to your advantage to stay in a gear (until limited) if you are generating more forward force than you would if you shift to the next. Numerous calculations (and actual tests) show you accelerate faster if you rev each gear to the redline.

yup, and thats also because you start up higher in the next gear.

Has anyone else noticed that the higher the gear the closer the ratio? like in 2nd you could start at 6500rpm then third is closer to 7000 and 4th is 7200 and so forth . . .
they really geared this car for acceleration above 60mph

There are many stories going around that the production and warranty redline of our engine is 11,000RPM. And that US pollution regs brought about the 9000RPM redline.

This may be fact or fiction. Supposedly the mugen chip extends the redline to 11,000PRM and that fact may support what the real design redline is.

11,000 RPM wow! I wonder how much truth there is to that...

Thanks TWOK..

Every one else, I didn't ask about shift points or where to find the most power. I have had my car on the dyno. Re read my post

"what is the MAX rpm this engine can spin to (when mechanically engaged) and not experience valve float?"

Mechanically engaged is when you are in gear, and using your ineria moving forward to spin the engine.

IE: How fast can the engine spin before you get the valves to float and risk bending them.

The 11k number I think is in line w/ another post I saw on H-A.

I heard it'll rev to 10,500 but that's just speculation, don't know if it's true
