seems like the latch can move and lock ifi push it with my finger, but maybe the plastic is smashed?so it doesn't want to rotate and latch, but instead just sit there on a flat spot.

that probably didn't make sense, seeing as how i'm half asleep and cant think right now.

i think i gotta get it replaced.
anyone know wheres good to buy oem parts?

It closes but doesn't latch, right?

Try WD-40 on the latch and inside the keyhole. Let it soak and the use the key to jiggle the lock.

If the previous owner never used the trunk key and you did, the tumblers may be stuck open.

Try hitting the trunk release inside the car a few times too. That could be stuck open.

i believe you are supposed to use graphite spray to lubricate the tumbler.

That would probably be optimal. Not sure if it'd help if it was already gummed up, though.

Maybe the trunk striker (the metal loop type thing mounted to the lip of the trunk) needs to be adjusted?

On my first s2k, the trunk was always a bit loose. Finally one day I messed around with the striker and got it to close tightly. But on a few of my attempts I moved it too far and the trunk latch wouldn't catch at all. Also, depending on where you put the striker, it could take a good slam to get the trunk closed. Maybe the previous owner adjusted it, and you're just not slammin it home with enough authority?

Hope this helps -- good luck
