Default Trying To Become An S2000 Owner ...

Been talking to the local Honda dealer. I'm real dissapointed in the trade-in value of my RX8. I offered them 4% over envoice on the Honda and wanted only the average trade-in value per NADA, which is $23,200 for a 6 speed RX8 w/sport package in this area. They countered with $21K and 4% and wouldn't budge. They claim this is what the car will get at "the market". Since when do dealers take near new cars to market? My old 1970 240Z I could understand auctioning off, but an 04 RX8?!?!?!?

It really comes down to the difference between what I'll give for theirs and what they'll give for mine. Was 4% to high? Should I have countered with 2% and $21K?

I'm still driving the '8.

Have you tried to sell your car privately. Also you might want to consider buying s2000 from a private owner. Than you have a idea on how the car was taking care of. Good Luck finding one. I bought mine from the auto trader.

I think 4% is probably about right for this time of the year. I think the sticking point is the trade-in: you'll generally get worse trade-in value when you go to a dealership that won't sell the car themselves. If you were trading in a used Honda, you'd get a better deal.

Got more for my Prelude and Integra from selling private party than going to the dealer.

Got a decent deal on my '02 S2K buying from a private party as well.

If you don't want to sell your car privately, start going around to other Honda dealerships. With that said, I'd try selling the 8 privately, its a fairly new car so demaind should be hig (hopefully).

Thanks all for the advice. But, I had to pass on the car. It wasn't due to lack of trying on my part. I called when they didn't call back, I visited and I called again. They wouldn't budge on their low-ball number on the '8. I think they confused my enthusiasm for a fool and where counting on me making an emotional decision versus a smart one. Not gonna happen.

I'm not done with my quest for an S2000. I'm working with a few other dealers. Something will come around.

they probably won't sell the RX8 at that dealer, so they take it to auction, where it will probably fetch the low-end of the trade-in value.

dealers do not take a trade in as a public service. they have to buy the car from you, hold it and sell it....or dump it at auction. Many Honda dealers like selling used Hondas; they probably don't want your '8.

I think NEW 8's with sport can be had for $25K or even less. 92% the price of a new car is way too much to ask. $21K was probably fair.

Sell it private, i got $3k more for my used car when i sold it a year ago, but that's because the s14 became very popular in the 'drifting' scene and mine was in excellent condition. Good luck.
