TSB 00-054 Buzzing from the engine or transmission while decelerating. PART 1
SYMTOM: While decelerating in 3rd or 2nd gear, a buzzing or rattling comes from the engine or transmission between 4,000 and 3,000 rpm. The noise sounds similar to a heat shield rattle, and it goes away if you press lightly on the accelerator pedal or disengaging the clutch.
Problem Cause: Gear backlash in the transmission
FYI: When the S decelerates, its Weight, together with the pulses from the engine, excites the trans gears, causing them to buzz or rattle. The clutch disc listed in this service bulletin is an improved version of the countermeasured disc released a year ago. Extensive testing has shown it to be quieter than any previous S2000 clutch discs.
Corrective Action: Replace the clutch disc with the improved clutch disc.
Parts Info: Clutch disc: P/N 22200-PCX-055, H/C 6855126
OUT OF WARRANTY: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone office. You must request Consideratio, and get a decision, before starting work

I just bought mine used a month ago. Mine has the clutch buzz. It is honda certified. I too have the 100k extended warranty. The dealer refused to fix it for free. I called customer service and they refused on the grounds that the clutch is wear item. I tried to explain that the clutch was defective and not worn, to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You are screwed, some things are not worth having done. A buzz or rattle, in this case, is not really harming anything.

If indeed it is mechanical, you made your case, and it will worsen. When it does you take it back.

I have a nasty creak from the dashboard, it is annoying.
They want to pull the dash apart. No thanks, because in the end some warranty work may do more harm than good.

TSB is simply there to help the dealer fix specific problems. It is not a warranty item. They can and will fix it as a good will item. If you have 50,000 miles on that clutch however it is likely they will not since you have used up most of the service life of the clutch. They might cut a deal and cover labor. It never hurts to ask.
