Turbo
Hey everyone. Got some S2000 questions. My S is my weekend driver which will eventually become a weekend canyon/track car. I'm starting to make my list of things but I do know that I'd like to turbo. I also don't want to be pulled over and have my car towed. CARB Legal turbos.. anyone know of a way? I'm pretty sure there are no kits of the sort and I was hoping on piecing it together anyways. Do Greddy turbo's have a CARB #?? What else might I get busted on?? sorry that I've got a lot of questions, but thanks in advance.
P.S. - I tried search without much success. And mods, please move to correct forum if this is wrong. Thanks.

i don't think it'll matter even if the parts have carb #'s... i've known people that have had greddy turbos on civic and integras still getting tickets for them..... i dont' think you'll get to much of a hassel on having a turbo kit on your car... it's just passing state emmisions or state inspections (if your state has any) will be the problem...
and if it really bothers you.. why not go with a supercharger.. i believe the comptech is carb legal... i think..

well the thing with the supercharger is that it'll run like a N/A S.... boost usually won't kick in till after you hit 6000rpm when vtec and boost kick in... so everything under 6000rpm will feel like a stock car... thats probably the reason people are not impressed with it... but yet a lot of people have it..... there are some people on this site that have gotten a lot of power out of the superchargers... 375+rwhp.....
now turbo feels more impressive cause it'll give you more torque and the torque curve will be more dramatic then the supercharger will give you.....

is it me or does superchargers give you boost no matter what rev range your in. Thats teh difference between turbos and superchargers, there is no lag, but there is also not as much potential.

You are probably thinking of the roots or screw type supercharger found on most other cars. Those run boost off idle thus giving power at all rpm range.
The centrifugal kits for the S2K build boost as the revs climb and only make peak boost at redline. Pre VTEC will be basically stock like, with maybe a few extra ponies here and there where I'm sure it is at 2-3psi or so.
There are mixed reviews on the SC, so definitely try and take a ride in one to see if you like it. That's all you can do. goodluck

roots and twin screw type superchargers hold a steady bost throughout the rev band. The centrifugal type supercharger--the only one available as of yet for the S2k--build boost with RPMs: ie you don't get max boost untill redline. Turbo's can be set up to give you boost nearly anywhere in the revband, but they take time to spool up, hence, turbo lag.
