Default Tyres .... Bridgestone Question

Hi, new member here in th UK

Sorry if this has been talked about in great length before but here goes:

My (new to me) Y04 needs new front tyres. The Potenza 215/45/R17 specific to this car is a compound called MZ, but unfortunately they are out of stock & on back order in the UK.

I have been offered a set of GZ compound tyres which is a softer (Subaru?) compound. Here's the rub - I'm driving to the Nurburg Ring soon & don't want to do 700 miles plus a few high speed laps with the wrong tyres.

I would be grateful to hear anyones opinions/experiences.

If this has been discussed before please provide me a link - I did a quick search & couldn't find anything but it could be a wetware issue...

Cheers

Are your tires the RE 050's? I'm not familiar with the compounds that you mention, but maybe Jim@tirerack.com can help you out. He is our resident tire expert. I suggest that you re-post this in the "wheels and tires" forum. Good luck on your trip and on the track!

Post this in the wheel/tire forum and you will likely get more replies.

By the way, the OEM tire is always out of stock. I got a pair of rear tires overnighted from www.tirerack.com faster than the tireshop could have special ordered them, for less money. There should be a British equivilent. Otherwise the Wheels-n-Tires forum could probably suggest an upgrade, but special order is likely either way.

Oh also do you have the AP1 or AP2? The AP1 came from the factory with 16 inch rims not 17. So doublecheck your tire size. Your info says 2000 which should take OEM sizes:

Bridgestone Potenza S-02
Front: 205/55ZR16
Rear: 225/50ZR16
Also I've heard that the 225 is really closer to a 245 for this model tire...
