Default Underhood insulation

I purchased a 2005 certified about 6 months ago.
It seems like all the vin tag stickers are original.

My hood DOES NOT have the engine insulation that I am seeing on some vehicles on ebay...the pic below is of a MY05, like mine.

Example:

What's the story? Is it on some but not all? Does it mean my hood was def repainted?

Thanks for any input...

ALL s2000's come with the insulation. The previous owner most likely removed it.

Sound retention is what is really is for. Noise goes through hood and then windsheild into passenger compartment.

sweet, I always thought it was a fire retardant mat. If not I'll just take it off.

Would it help lowering heat retention by moving it?, the S has a damn hot engine bay!
