Default upgrade from OEM speakers

I'm thinking once i get home i'd like to upgrade to some slightly better audio quality than my stock 04 gives me. Does anyone have any opinions on these S-Pods i hear about? and what type of speaks / cd player to replace the stock setup if it needs it at all?

I just put in a set of Infinity Reference component speakers with crossover. I highly recommend them if you're sticking with a factory head unit because they have a good sensitivity rating, and component speakers are definitely better than cheaping out.

chickdr,

So you're saying the Polk's were a significant improvement over the stock speakers?

More importantly, they just bolted right in? You didn't have to cut any plastic or make any other modifications?

Anyone else know of any other speakers that bolt right in, without modifying or cutting anything?

Thanks!

I can't speak for the Polks, but when I installed the Infinity 6020cs speakers I had to trim the back of the factory speaker baskets to get them to fit, they're a good deal bigger than stock.

The improvements however were enormous and worth it.

I have Polk Audio DB651's. I used the supplied brackets, but didn't use the stock baskets. They drop right in and I didn't have to modify anything.

As far as speaker quality, I think they are average. There are better speakers out there.

I went with alpine type-r. They sound really good, but I also have an aftermarket head unit...

I'm also curious, I plan to upgrade my speakers since I didn't get the stereo upgrade in the 02+ models.

I use the Polk MMC650. They work great for me. I had bought seperate speaker spacers but ended up not using them.

You're not missing much. It still sucks.

To original poster: there are some great FAQ's in the Electronics forum.
