upshift

well i am getting a little annoyed with having not smooth shifts. i shift like i assume everyone eles does it.

gas-gas off-clutch in-shift-gas on while clutching ot slowly. This way i am noticing that the shifts are not so pleasant. I baby the clutch so it can make a smooth transition but as you know when you let of the gas and clutch it the rpm drop so quicly that you are forced back into your seat slightly causing not so smooth shifts.

well i was just wondering if it is ok to have your foot on the gas every so slightly while shifting? i beleive in more extreme cases its called power shifting? correct me if im wrong. but this way it is faster for me to shift,acelerate away and also the shifts are so much smoother.

yes I know what your saying, You must "rev match" when shifting, to avoid the jerking. as the engine rpm slows down quickley between gear shifts. I just dont let off the gas all the way, and shift faster. It takes me a little extra time to shift smoothly. you will get used to it. drive safe

i find the f20c to be the best honda engine. When u switch gears fast enough the engine will still be at that perfect rpm for u to ease off the clutch and smoothly engage the gear. ive gotten compliments for my smooth shifting how long u been driving manual cars?? my first car was a 88 crx b16a. loved that cable clutch, i been driving stick for a few years now. practice makes perfect. makes sure u dont let off the clutch while being only half-way in your gear. my bro (its his s2000) didnt know how to drive stick when he bought it. 4 days into it hes driving better then alot of people i know, stalled it 3 times TOTAL. I explained to him as detailed as possible about how the clutch and the tranny move the car and the relationship between the clutch the disk and the flywheel to make him understand it more and he picked it up fast. Dont know if ur a car whiz or not but you should learn as much as possible about ur s2k, it will help u in all the areas of driving. take care of ur s2ks!!!!

One thing that helps me to be smooth, especially with upshifts, is to take my left foot heel off the floor. When I have my heel on the floor, I have a lot less "feel" for the clutch. When I take my heel off the floor and move my whole leg (instead of just bending my ankle) I have much smoother clutch engagements.

why are you letting off the gas before you disengage the clutch?? when you do that, the split second when your foot is off the gas and the clutch is still engaged, the engine ends up slowing your car down slightly between your shifts. you should be pressing in the clutching and letting off the gas simultaneously. better yet, since you are having problems shifting quickly enough, you can begin pressing in the clutch a split second before letting off the gas. this way you end up getting a slight "blip" right after the clutch is disengaged, giving you an extra split second to shift into the next gear and reengage the clutch without having the engine rpm drop too low causing your shifts to stutter.

, blip the throttle a bit between the upshift to match the engine and transmission speed.

well this may be a little hard to explain clearly, but i simply shift quickly...i dont spend a lot of time out of gear. Some people say I just shift quick but to me it feels normal. Shifting the way i do keeps my revs to where they should be and i hardly have to blend with the clutch. I guess u just need more practice....also u may be shifting to early. I noticed if i dont get a decent rev and try to shift, a lot more blending needs to happen for a butter smooth shift. I guess im doing something right because many people have complimented me on how smooth i shift....they can barely feel the next gear if anything. good luck

youll get better. this car is harder to drive than a rsx or bmw from my experience.
your left should never be on the ground like someone said. your muscle will get stronger and youll have better control.
some tips, your throttle will affect how the rpm drops. more throttle, slower drop. on an uphill you have to shift slower cuz the car slows between shifts. downhill is opposite, shift faster.
rev it higher, slower shift. rev lower faster shift in comparison.
and also the spacing between the first 3 gears are farther apart they would be slower. 1-2,2-3,3-4 slower shift than 4-5,5-6.
also, i find that all new cars are more sensitive at the beginning and will become more forgiving as the miles pack on.
