Used NSX or New S2000?
Hi,
I am considering 91-93 NSX w/ 60k miles and a brand new 2002 S2000. I am not sure what the performance difference between the two cars would be, but either of them will be my weekend car. Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I have not yet driven an NSX, but I made the same choice.
To me the S2000 is a little more of a driver's car. I know the NSX is intended to be, but on a much higher scale, but I've never cared for mid-engine/RWD handling characteristics. I don't recall what track it was on, but the S2k and NSX had virtually the same lap times. I think that give excellent drivers, the S2k and NSX will turn similar times on all but the straightest course.
The NSX has much more "curb appeal" in uniqueness and first impression. It's also a true exotic in that it is a car that is out of reach for most people, even used (unless you're talking about a well-used 91). While the S2k is certainly unique and by no means commonplace, the NSX STILL has a sexy look after all these years that is both unique and attractive.
I went with the S2 since it made financing easier/cheaper and I was able to buy new... and didn't have to worry about where the car had been. I also didn't want a well-used interior which I have seen in most used NSX's (at least in my price range).

One word: INSURANCE
... I believe the NSX is going to be significantly higher. Of course the 'babe' factor will be higher too. The NSX can also be seriously tricked out for a ton of power (if you want that). And will always be a quicker car than the S2K.
But, your also buying a used car... lots of down sides, including lack of warranty.
Trade off... Now, if I could have gotten a '98 NSX vs. S2K for the same price... Hmmm :-) But I think I'de avoid a '91 or '92, mearly because of the age.

I have to agree that, although the look is dated, it's still a sexy car. It has one of my all-time-favorite interiors.
To add to what has already been said above, I would also include "maintenance costs" If you can afford them, (no warranty) then by all means go for the NSX !! :-)
I too fell into this dilema with a 91 nsx I was considering. But after taking in the monthly payments for a car greater than 10 years old, no warranty, high insurance, and expensive basic maintenance I opted for the "S" simply due to monthly affordability.
Just my $.02

Easy to mod as in parts availability, but they are very, very, VERY expensive.
There are two local guys that own both - one a '00 model w/ 290 stock hp; another a '91 270 stock hp + some toys that bring it to ~400 rwhp. PM s2ktaxi and / or Nimbus as I am sure they'll be more than glad to offer their thoughts, or come to one of our meets and talk to them in person.

Thanks guys! I will contact those people who have both cars.
Since I will be driving less than 3k miles per year, maintenance cost (including insurance) may not be too problematic, but I will look into it as well..
To, PsychoBen,
You parked your car along the Beach on Sunday, right? My wife's stationwagon was parked next to it! I also saw you zooming by Ocean Ave this morning around 8:45am? Truly beautiful car
.
When will be the next gathering? I will drag my friend (who has S2000) to go with me. OW... I will be a total stranger in my bimmer (I think that I can fit your car into the trunk of my car
)

Although the NSX is a beautiful car, I don't think I would buy a used NSX over a new S2k. There is too many variables like if he/she took care of the car, were maintenance schedules followed etc....
Good Luck whatever your choice is.
