Default Are VAFC VTEC controllers worth it?

I keep hearing that S2000's come tuned so well already. But then I hear how some people gain over 10HP with certian mods on other cars like civics, etc. My only main mods I added was a cold air intake and single exhaust. Can I gain a decent amount of power with a vafc controller? I know the more mods, the better, but what about my setup? Is it worth it?

There are a bunch of threads on this, but I would say you could gain some power. All cars are tuned rich from the factory to cover themselves. You can lean the car out some especially since you have exhaust and intake.

search is your friend

I tried searching before. There are quite a lot of interesting posts about this. Some argue that the ECU "relearns" the new A/F ratio, causing the car to revert to original settings if not in WOT or something ... anyway, I don't know much about it. But it might be worth searching.

dang, that's a very decent bump for $350 (vafc + harness) i want one too.

i had a SAFC once on my civic, i can attest to the gains these boxes do.

does anyone know if the ecu really does relearn the A/F ratios?

based on experience from my old car (non S) the A/F stayed close to setting values in the SAFC throughout, it did't relearn itself after 10, 20, 500, 5000 miles. Seeing how the safc is connected, the ECU depends on the (adusted) O2 readings provided to it by the SAFC. Without a CEL the ECU thinks everything is fine, it will not go out of the closed loop operation and will continue to depend on the adjusted readings. can someone chime in on this?

you can set-up the VAFC II to only make corrections at WOT. that way the ECU will never re-learn the settings, and you will never haveto re-set you ecu.

I just tuned my VAFC II on my Stock s2k about a month ago, I baselined at 203WHP and after the tune I was at 211WHP with some areas in the + 14whp gain.
