I have noticed that the V1 radar detector seems to lag a bit in terms of signal response after it has determined where the signal has orginated from.

For instance when cruising down the highway the radar picks up a bogey directly in front of me. As I pass the signal origin (cop, 7-Eleven, whatever) it is still pointing forward for a good bit of time, then slowly proceeds to the side arrows (well past the signal origin at this point), and finally shows the rear arrow.

I never noticed this behaviour in the past, but I do not know for sure if it has always been there.

I would assume that as soon as it picks up a boogey the sampling rate would be much quicker and be more responsive to the user.

Anyways not a big deal, but has anyone else seen this behaviour?

I have paid attention to this in the past and have to say, mine seems to follow the radar quite closely from front to side to back... it saved me 4 times today alone!

I have also noticed this. The arrow pointer lags behind about one second after you passed the radar source. Sometimes its alot faster than others. Still by far the best detector I've owend.

This post got me thinking about the V1 and reading up on it. Their website provides good information, but when I did a search, I found another site which ranked it lower.

What are your opinions on this:

Most of the time, the V1 has saved me, but there has been two instances where the V1 didn't even trigger.

One time the cop was just sitting in the grass on the highway and luckly I was going only 5 over the limit. My conclusion, he probably didn't have his radar on.

This one puzzles me. I'm on I20 and I see a cop standing outside his car and pointing the radar gun at me and the on-coming traffic. The V1 didn't even beep once. Weird?!

Bguernsey, Car and Driver recently tested the V1 and also ranked it lower than Escort 8500 and BEL 980 on range, falsies and size. It's still a good detector, though.

I'm curious as to who sponsors the radartest site? It sounds like the Bel or Escort is the best bet.

I used this site for research and ended up with a BEL 980. This unit has saved my butt several times and best of all, only paid $249 for it.....

I have an Escort 8500 and it alerts me upwards of one mile from an *idling* radar gun. Lots of range to play with!

Ivs2k, I don't want to be rude, but I often find that when the V1 is not given top honors it's because the reviewer/site/magazine is against it in some way.

I wouldn't have thought twice about their tests except that the V1 site claimed so much better results, and the radartest site shows substantially different results. Was the radar not tuned correctly for the radartest.com's test??

I'm sure the difference is small, but it matters because of the price difference. You can probably shop around and find the passport 8500 fairly low ($275-$300 or so), but the V1 is always going to be $400 since you can only buy it from their web site.

The site claims the rear radar isn't so useful, but I think the only freeway ticket I've had was when I wasn't paying attention and a cop had made his way up the fast lane behind me. Again, looking in the rear view mirror would have helped here
