Default Valve cover dull

I was thinking about putting a clear kote on the valve cover. What do you guys recommend?? Do I need to repaint it to get the bright color back. Thanks

put some motor oil on a towel and wipe the valve cover with it, a trick.

Do NOT do what this person suggests, first of all it will, over time, remove the finish on the valve cover. But in the immediate future you will have a very dusty valve cover, oil will attract and hold dust on what ever surface you paint it on.

The valve cover is a flat crinkle painted finish, wipe it with a damp rag to remove the dust. If you want a better sheen Ricks S2k has a gloss painted valve cover available.
