Default Valvetrain @ 184K miles

Bought a 2001 a few months ago with 181K on it. I've slowly been fixing it up and enjoying it. Yesterday I checked valve adjustment, replaced the valve cover gaskets, PCV valve, etc. Lash was all within spec, so that's good. Engine has some light varnishing on it, which isn't a big deal and I think will clean up with some short OCIs with M1 0W-40. I put a camera down into the cylinders while the plugs were out and they looked great, no carbon at all on them.

Last weekend, I finally had a successful weekend at the track with the car (the first two attempts ended up with it busted):

The first time I took it to the track, the power steering went out -- torque sensor failure. The second time the clutch came apart:

It's strange that there was no carbon buildup on the piston heads. I thought this was something that was unavoidable with mileage?

Edit: sorry, brain fart. you said plugs, not pistons haha. looks good though mate at that mileage if they're stock clutch and ps pump then tracking it i'm not surprised they came apart. a lot of folks that have street-only S's can have their clutch last that long (several people) but on the track no way lol.

It was poorly worded. I pulled the plugs and looked into the cylinders. The pistons had no carbon buildup. It is not unavoidable, just not unusual.

Yup, not real worried about the failures given that they were likely original 180K mile parts. FWIW, the S2K doesn't have a power steering pump; it is all electric. The part that failed is the sensor that detects when the wheel is being turned.
