Default Vandalism?

For those that have encountered some vandalism to their S2000... where was your car when it happened?

This is directed toward seat theft and soft top vandalisms.

Outside? Parking deck? In your private driveway? Airport?

I am hesitant to get an S2k since I am living in an apartment complex that has had a record for theft. No real security or cameras in the parking lot.

I just feel afraid to leave it out in the open if I am out of town for the week. My job requires me to make long business trips.

Monday, sometime between 2:00 PM and midnight, I had my catalytic converter stolen. They removed it with a Sawzall so I will have to replace the header and rear exhaust pipe, too.

The car was in my carport.

LOL... that happened to my nissan pickup. Actually, the first time they couldn't unbolt the cat so the just left my exhaust hanging. Then about a month later they returned with a grinder and cut it off..... apparently they steal cats because platinum builds up inside of them (thats what the muff shop guy told me) hah.

To the original poster: My top was slashed within the first couple months of owning it. I lived in a shady apartment complex (yours sounds similar). The idiot didn't get anything out of my car.. at all. Just slashed the top, once he opened the door my factory alarm went off and he ran away.... what a ####ing retard! If an alarm is gonna scare you off then why even try?!? He is lucky he ran away because I was out there within 30 seconds packing heat and extremely pissed off. Moral of the story is... wait until you have a garage to get one. I have since moved to an apartment w/ a garage and can sleep @ night once again.

The extra 100 bucks a month I pay for my garage is well worth it. Ive walked to my garage a few times and seen other cars with smashed windows, and I live in the nice apartment complex too.

hardtop will keep you pretty safe, but they are pretty expensive. I would cosider moving to a nicer complex if fundage will allow, then get yourself an s2000. When you a re out of town, I would leave it someplace where there are people home. That is probally the safest thing to do. A good alarm system with flamethrowers would work to. Lol, they actually have those in South Africa. Good luck man.

If you want an S2000 ,get one. Then prepare yourself mentally to handle any vandalizing that may occur. No matter what you get, you'll never be completely safe from vandalism. You may as well drive the car you like.

Vandalism happens. Even with a hardtop and the best alarm out there, if a thief is determined enough they will get to your car.

With that being said, I park my S at my apartment complex and someone has been repeatedly messing with my fenders (I'm assuming to get to the hood cable). Haven't done any real damage to my S yet, but it will be ugly when I do catch them. I am planning on installing a surveillance system from my window to watch my S through the night.
