UM a group buy for that steering wheel, as you can see by the link posted above this steering wheel can be modified to fit our cars, and since it is a oem honda part i thought jeff might be able to order them.....

i'm not sure that some guy selling it on ebay qualifies as proof that it is compatible. i've only seen threads to the contrary.

show me a link on this website where someone changed the wheel with a "reasonable" amount of effort, whilst retaining the full functionality of the wheel (airbag and horn) and hasn't had to tool-up some new parts.

edited for readability.

I have seen it reported ONCE that it was made to fit. Basically the guy cut the hub out of the this AND the stock steering wheel and transplanted it. It was a TON of work and required the use of a machine shop.

That is the only one I have seen successfully installed. I want one too.

Just my opinon, but I think it's stupid to spend $400 on a VGS wheel, then another $300 on a stock wheel (remember if they it up then you are screwed), then pay extra money to have it machined. You are looking at like $800+ to have a VGS wheel put in that only makes you a poser since you don't even have VGS. I would have just spent the money on a new Momo wheel.

The only reason the VGS would have an advantage over a momo would be the airbags. I wouldn't mind having the VGS wheel if i could scrape off the badge cleanly.

Yeah, I want the airbag and the D-shaped wheel. I need the extra leg clearance for ingress/egress that the VGS wheel would offer. Not for $800 though. Lowering the seat would be a much cheaper option.

i'm Sorry maybe it just doesn't seem like as much work for me becasue i have friends that do custom fabrication and could get this done for free and with extreme attention to detail. I know not everyone has this luxury but if i can mangle the cost down to about 450-500 i would do it, just because i love the way it looks and can still use horn and airbag with it......theres always a way it just takes some time and effort!

Judging by this, it looks one a one off with major work done to do the transplant.

The owner who placed up the auction and posted at S2KCA is the same person if anyone is wondering, also someone has won the bid, the only question now would be who owns it now instead.

Auction Display

Just to give anyone an idea how near impossible not to mention costs involved, you can do either of the following to make the transplant work.

- Use a non-VGS wheel, cut off the central spline repeat procedure on VGS wheel and weld tight. It is virtually impossible to regrind/rethread the spline because of the fine lines leaving less than 0.5mm in each gap on the VGS wheel. VGS wheel also has more gear markings than a non-VGS wheel. (1 ventured successfully thus this sale/thread till date.)

- Change the entire steering column from a non-VGS steering column to a VGS steering column to match the new VGS wheel/spline configuration. This part itself costs twice as much as a brand new VGS steering wheel and exchanging this part requires major work including firewall movement, this is also tempering with safety and can cause significant danger if not fitted properly. Part can only be sourced in Japan and is perhaps never sold to begin with. While this may not be compatible with other steering shaft/lock components since the rest of the stuff are still non-VGS. However as no one as ventured this far.

Not to mention, none of which are legal (not that anyone really cares) but is highly unroad worthy or safe, considering the steering rack/column is perhaps one of the most crucial pieces of item in the car. It'll be the last thing anyone should do trying a rice mod with no function.
