Vibrations
I thought I had my share of problems with my S, guess what, just got another one.
Noticed yesterday when accelerating as from 4000 Rpm I got rather big vibrations from the back of the car (right side?).
Thought first I had a flat tire, checked ok.
My next guess would be the differential, went to the dealer, took a drive and he was shure it is the tires, can be so I bought new ones (they were bold anyway
) but guess what, nothing changed.
I searched a bit on the board and found some hints, but I need to help my dealer (mechanic) in the good direction fast as my waranty expires in 200 miles
Could it be the differential? I noticed that there is quite some play between the differential and the axles to the wheel (Is that called CV joint in English?), about a quart inch in and out moving play/ about the same up and down, is that normal, mechanic said it is normal.
A yes, before I forget, is this kind of problem covered by waranty?
Well I hope someone can give me a hint, greetz, Bart

Not sure what the problem is but here's the first thing you need to do. Get the dealer to acknowledge the problem in writing. They're obligated to fix it if you bring it to their attention prior to the expiration of the warranty, even if the troubleshooting/repair goes past the warranty expiration. So get it in writing now so they can't pretend they don't know about it later. Hopefully someone else will have some technical suggestions for you.
Hi Strike,
Thanks for the tip, in fact I asked him about it (something on paper) but he said it is not necessary since they don't send anything to Honda anyway and they will arrange that later if there is a problem with waranty
(sounds kind of BS to me, I'll asked them again tomorrow).

Be careful, if it's not in writing, many people have no intentions of honoring "their word" later. ie: GET IT in writing, it should take less than 1 minute.
Cheers,
Daniel

It's the CV joints.
I don't understand why Honda does not inform his dealers about weak points or recurrent problems with his cars.
Obviously the S2000 has a lot of them, I never had a car with so much problems, but every time I go to the dealer with some problem it is the first time they hear about it.
Then if you search on this board you find that this is something a lot of people encountered.
It would be much easier for everybody if Honda would keep track of weak points AND inform their dealers about it.
So why don't they ??

They're minimizing how many cars they have to fix. I mean, if you hadn't mentioned it to them for another 300 miles they could have denied your claim. There are a number of issues Honda has chosen not to officially acknowledge such as this. It's bad business in this day of the Internet where it's so easy for information and bad experience to be spread. Many S2K owners love their car but have a distrust or dislike of Honda. This is unfortunate given Honda's long term reputation, which is good. I'm glad you found out what the problem was. I assume they're fixing it under warranty?
I had a vibration and also a clicking coming from the rear as well...yesterday those so called mechanics at honda replaced the diff and the noise is still there advised them of the CV boot possibility and they looked at me like i was from another planet....taking it back monday!!!!!
