Video Mount
Anyone got a video mount in their S2000? I'm very curious on what your setup is.
I have found this "suction cup" style video mount which can securely mount the camcorder to the back of the front windshield.
Any thoughts?

I'd rather mount it behind/between the seats. Maybe attach it to the wind deflector, if you could keep it from folding down. When I run my S at the track I'm going to have camcorder no matter what it takes. Maybe some nice fellow will engineer a mount for us.

I've been kludging one together with the head and upper tube from a tripod lashed to the passenger seat with a bicycle inner tude and nylon straps. Aft3erburn will be digitizing some footage that I obtained at Sebring - keep your eyes open. I would love to figure out a way to securely mount the camera in a more elegant way. I'm very interested in a good solution.
With the camcorder mounted to the rear of the cabin, the angle of view is great, but the sound sucks. There is simply too much wind noise. I'll try experimenting around with a microphone on my next track outing at the end of this month.

Hey Joshua,
I'd be more than happy to digitize any future enveavors as well
If your microphone can be hooked up to an auxiliary microphone, I'd suggest doing what a couple of people have done in this situation; tape the microphone to the dash or in a footwell.
I would also like to ask that next time you mount the camera, could you please mount it just a little bit lower? Most of the straight-ahead view was obstructed by the rear-view mirror. But passing those cars was NEATO!

Engineer? Did someone say engineer? I rigged up a tripod for a still camera (will also work for a camcorder). I haven't gon out to take any pictures yet, but keep wanting to. I got a tripod and placed 2 legs in front of the deck where the top folds down, and extend the third leg to the tray behind the cup holder. I got 2 nylon cargo straps and strapped the tripod head to the rollover loops. The tripod head sits in the centerline of the car, slightly behind the rollover hoops. There is a centerpost extension that I extend to about a foot higher than the windshield frame. With a 24mm lens (for a 35mm camera) the few will include reflections off the hood and maybe the dash.
simple, forget trying to rig something by yourself, buy this little doohicky instead... you can mount it anywhere and securely and it's fairly affordable.

A few of us plan to get one for the next track day and it should be a hoot on the motorcycle (although I already have a camera mount for that from http://www.saeng.com)

Wow! That would be perfect. Maybe mount this on the lid of the storage compartment between the seats, then leave the camcorder behind the seats? Of course, it'd pick up tons and tons of wind buffeting on the microphone, so you'd want to put an external mic on there. But still... very cool!

The possibilities are endless. Some things we commonly do with it on bikes is mount it facing backwards, on the side by the wheel (ala Dukes of Hazard), by the forks to pointing through the windscreen and of course as advertised, on the helmet.
It's got a fairly wide angle lens, but a good place might be near the passenger rollover hoop pointed towards the driver to get the speedo which would be helpful in determining how consistent your corner speeds, lines and laptimes are.
Good stuff!

Hell, you could even stick it in the footwell and show off your double-clutching just like they do in races! (-:
Anybody know whether the velcro attached to the camera would stick to the S2K carpet? If so, the possibilities are truly endless...
