VIN on car does not match engine.
Is the VIN on the block supposed to match the car? Common sense tells me they should, or do they come down seperate lines and are just married by chance? Would anyone mind checking under thier hood for me? I have found one case where they did not match up (car-5659, engine-5657) and the engine is supposed to be original, is this normal? Thanks.
I've been trained that this is not normal; i'm a licensed VIN inspector and the derivative of the VIN stamped on the engine and tranny should match the last 6 or 7 digits of the VIN on the car. But if the numbers are that close, it's very unlikely that it was an aftermarket swap; more like a mix up at the factory.
I'm pretty sure mine don't match. It's at home so I can't check it right now. I believe on the window sticker that has all of the car's information listed, it has the serial number of the engine listed separately since it is not always the same on this car.
