the Rx-8 isnt even the fastest mazda. It gets beat by the Mazda speed 6, mazda speed 3 and I'm sure the miata will soon pass it.

Think about it guys. Anything the S can do, some other car can do better. Anything the RX can deo, some other car can do better. The S does some things better than the RX, and the RX does some things better than the S. When it comes to the things that most people expect from their cars, the RX does more of them well than the S does. That means that, for many if not most people, the RX will be a better choice.

Frankly, I don't know of any other car that seats four people and has four doors that is more fun than the RX; There are a *few* others that are as much fun, but the RX is a unique package that is as much fun as anything else with as many seats. I both like and respect the cars, and you guys should too.

It should NOT concern us if they do not appreciate our cars as much as we appreciate theirs, because our cars are aimed at a very narrow niche market and we're the target. Our car is simply NOT aimed at everyman; the ride is too harsh, the handling too unforgiving, etc., and expecting everyone to appreciate the things we love about our cars is at best misguided. If a gearhead who can appreciate the virtues of a niche market car like the S can't appreciate the virtues of a car like the RX then something is interfering with his thinking (and this thread makes it look for all the world like unabashed and misplaced vanity).

 

in pure performance which the poll is about, the S2k is the better car.

 

I gotta stop reading their forums. I used to browse there regularly since I was about to pick up an RX8, but I am so glad that I didn't. Some of the things they say are . I love how they say that we are defensive about when half the threads on their forums consist of problems with their cars, a fourth about horrible gas/oil consumption, and a fourth reassuring each other that their car is good. And the guy who says the only fast Hondas are swaps, I gotta laugh and say that all fast Mazdas are ticking time bombs.

Don't get me wrong, I love the RX8 for what it is and would probably pick one up if 2 seats were not enough for my needs. However, this is a performance poll, not a "I can seat more people and can carry groceries than you" contest. But it is all meaningless now, useless poll.

 

Agreed...the 8 is the most practical sports car made since the Ferrari 308GT4. If I needed a 4-seater it would be top of my list for the money.
