Hi guys,

My VTEC has always engaged at about 6500rpms. Just recently it seems as if my vtec kicks in (at first gear) at about 7500-8000 rpms. VTEC kicks in about 6500rpms for all the other gears.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I recently over revved on third gear when i was traveiling at about 110km/hr... could this be a reason?

Whats meant to happen if you over rev it? This is the first time ive ever done it tho...

 

FYI, 3rd at 110km/h is not an over-rev... if you went into second from third instead of 4th at that speed you might have some trouble.

You have a f20c in that right? it's not an over-rev

 

VTEC intensity is also determined by throttle position. If you are at WOT, the vtec transition is more noticable than if you are easy on the pedal. So... if rev's are climbing slowly, it may seem like you aren't in vtec even though you actually are. So run through the gears at WOT and I bet everything is normal.

 

Need more info on the over rev. What exactly happened?

You need (at a minimum) a retainer inspection if you actually over reved the engine.

 

Also if your car is cold, the tach display may lag behind the actual engine rpms. You may think it's 7.5k rpms when the engine is actually at the correct crossover.

I can't think of any situation where VTEC in one gear would be different from the others.

Check your oil level anyway, though.

 

maybe your car redlines at 10K that's why you VTEC at 7,500,
