I hardly VTEC because it's too dangerous on the street. I still get 20 mpg with 4-5k shifting.

If you think of your car as a "she" then VTEC can't be "just a mechanical state", now can it?
Also, if you try to force "her" into VTEC too soon... "she" may kick you in the jewel bag.
(As stated in a thread not that long ago)

You can VTEC 1st and 2nd without too much trouble. VTEC to the top of 3rd and your speeding on most roads. 4th is really fast. How about 5th or 6th, then maybe were talking dangerous for the street. Anyone willing to admit to it? How fast do you have to be going to VTEC 5th and 6th?

You can hit 110 mph and not VTEC. I think you've got bigger worries than VTEC if that's a consideration.

some funny reponses. "Staying out of VTEC in fear of the 5.0 " as someone said above.

VTECing is not the fear. I enjoy VTECing this car and do it intentially many times because it can handle it.

The part that bothers me is there are times where I go too far and vtec engages unintentially and when I'm trying to drive "ordinary" I up shift out of it, and doing this I feel I am teasing it...
I feel I wasted the VTEC don't know if others feel the same...because once I VTEC, I want to WOT and make sure I enjoy it.

"go into vtec and play in it to enjoy it or don't go into it at all."?? That's the feeling. Stupid but something that ran through my mind about VTECing.

When I'm in VTEC mode, ideally I don't want to "waste it" if you will...I want to rev it up and at least be in vtec for a longer duration and not shift out and go back to "ordinary" mode so soon because I feel engaging VTEC and not staying in it is like "teasing" the engine.

It's a Monday...

It's like playing Super Mario Bros or Pac man, when you get the STAR or the PILL respectively, you don't want to waste it and not run hard after mushrooms and ghosts, otherwise it'd be a waste to take the STAR. If you know the duration of the star and if it landed on you early (in local traffic where you can't open up the car) I think is the similar feeling here...feel like damn...I didn't want this yet.

Ok, in the real world that's not how it works. You don't have a limited amount of VTEC uses. It's not NOS, it won't run out (as long as you have enough oil and gas). You can't "tease it". You're either in VTEC or out of it. It's not as if you "used" up a VTEC life .

Stop playing Mario . It's 2006.

According to the calc, if you want to vtec-pass someone on the highway (at highway speeds) you need to down shift to 3rd. 4th doesn't start Vtec until 75 miles an hour! (AP2 numbers) For 5th, vtec begins at 90 and 6th at 110. So VTEC in 6th gear on the street may involve a night in jail.

Thanks for the link.
