Default The VTEC temptation

So you know... I know typical breakin is at 1,500 to be safe. And for hard abuse youd prolly want the motor to have about 3,000 - 5,000. But this past night I was with four of my other friends on the freeway and we just couldn't resist and had alot of fun, heh I was just wondering how much I should be ashamed of myself for pushing my baby into VTEC for the 1st time with only 1,100 miles on the motor I took it to high 7s, no redlining of course... I really just... couldn't wait anymore.... So how long were you other guys able to wait out using VTEC before breakin? Or is this whole VTEC Factor a silly n00b myth

I think Honda recommends 600 mile break-in.

My S had about 65 miles when I drove it off the lot. It has 150 miles now. So far, I've redlined it twice, mis-shifted from 5th into 2nd (wanted to go into 4th) and the RPMs were bouncing off the rev-limiter like crazy for only about half a second. And I've shifted a few times over around 5000 - 5500 rpm. It's hard....very hard.

I agree, I believe Honda recommends 600 miles. You are FINE! Be careful with the car, don't over-rev it (and if you do have it checked out), and have LOTS of fun!

If you want a strong motor, drive it,like you stole it,and right from the beginning;that's the best break in you can do.
Remember,it's a Honda.

You are going to drop a valve sooner or later for a 5-2..

I really don't see the point in waiting 1,500 miles to VTEC, and waiting 3,000 miles just to push the car hard... that is ABSOLUTELY rediculous. Don't be a wimp.

break in procedures are highly debated. some suggest babying it for whatever is reccomended and some reccomend ripping around in it immediately and then changing the oil immediately.
its up to you
i waited until like 450 miles. i was too impatient

At 3 miels I took delivery of the car.
Been taking it to redline since it had 100 miles about twice a week.
The car was autocrosed at 500 miles.
Changed the oil at 3500 miles when the indicator went off.
The car used 1 quart of oil by then.
Ever since then it has since redline once or twice a day with no problems.
I have 20k miles now, with 4 oil changes, and NO oil consumed between oil changes since then.

I think you will be fine.

I have had no problems. the clutch works great now. It was bad when I got it.

Only problems I have experienced are that the top will not go down all the way (elastic straps are no good), and the A/C stinks every now and then and it makes some hissing noises. Otherwise its a great car.
