Moonpie,

Got a dealer closer a little closer, still in New York though. Give a call to Babylon Honda on Long Island. (631)669-8800 Ask to speak to Tony Fuoco (saleman) or Ron Stanton (general manger)
This is where I got my S2 for MSRP. This is a straight up dealership with NO Bullish involved in the sale. If they can help you they will, if not they will tell you, no stringing along. I'm telling you man, they're straight up. They have a revolving clientel, which can be the best indiction of good service. They tend to stock 2- 6 S2000 at any given time. They may have the one your looking for. Best part all the cars only have the miles that they accumulated during shipping. My car had 7.8 miles @ delivery.
Give um' a call, what do you have to lose. PM with any other concerns. Good luck!

P.S. I do not work for the dealership.

hey moonpie,

I bought my car with only 2 miles on it and the salesman never told me about the breakin period and so right out of the box for the first 200 or so miles i was vtec-ing like crazy. Then i foudn this board and learned : ) My car now has 2600 miles and never had a problem with it yet other then a flat tire today and occasionall 1st to 2nd gear grind....

The only thing i am anal about is the 39 miles, i would nevr buy a car from a dealer that has over 10 miles on it.

Thanks to all who provided dealer names and info on the VTEC issue. I located a '02 Spa at a local dealership for $2000 over MSRP, but was determined not to pay any more than MSRP. So I found this '02 Spa in Charlotte, NC, which is about 300 miles away. This is the car with 39 miles on it. Well, I was going to go down there tommorow to pick it up, but with the dealer acting like he was about the VTEC issue, I got a little nervous, thus my post here.

Well tonight I figured I'd go have a look at this '02 Spa for MSRP +$2000 and to see if they would budge at all on the price. I walked immediately onto the lot, took a quick look at the car, and walked up to the desk (since nobody came to me..I dress pretty casual), and told the receptionist that I was ready to take the car home with me now. She grabbed me a salesguy, who wanted to explain all about the car to me, I told him I knew about most of the car, and that I wanted to take it home with me. We go inside, he says, "You know how much we're asking for this ...blah blah". I say, "yeah, and I'm on my way to Charlotte tomm. to pickup this identical car for MSRP tommorow if you don't sell it to me for that tonight". He told me he'd see what he could do. To make a long story short, after much bargaining, threats to walk out, I drive away a very happy dude with MSRP + $1000 + Car Cover + Shift knob.

Now I know I could have gotten it for MSRP if I had driven 6 hours to Charlotte, put 1200 miles on wife's Odyssey, dragged the kids around etc. Instead I chose to pay the extra $1000, which is pretty good for the DC area, and have tommorow free

So I took the car and it had 20 miles on it, and now I can't wait to VTEC it!!!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I was in South Carolina last week and a dearler literally had a 2002 dropped the night before I test drove it. I knew I was not going to buy this car since my 2002 was ordered in Ohio and due in anyday, but I wanted to see and feel the new 02's. During the test drive the saleman kept saying "open it up, these things fly!" I kept refusing saying it would hurt the components of engine but he kept insisting. I told him about the not Vtec rule and still insited saying these things were made to drive.

It has 3.7 miles on it when I started the test drive and 7.1 when I finished! I have no doubt that after I left he took it out and tried to launch it. After that I called my dealer and made him promise me that once dropped no on would touch my car, period.

DON'T DO IT!

Congrats moonpie,

I guess you you paid $1000 for peace of mind, an extra days play and less hassel. Sounds fine to me.

I will add however that I heard/read that time to time Honda take out a new S2000 at the factory for a test drive around the track. Not sure what kind of miles they put on though.

From my basic mech. experience that high revs on any "unbroken" engine deposits piston and ring material into the cylinder walls that can make the walls slightly uneven and thus affects(lowers) compression and thus lowers horsepower. The mileage for break-in is to allow all interferring surface to mate(lap).

Help!

I have a dilema facing me right now.
My car has 3,100 miles on it. I am not going to have the time to put another 650 miles (pathetic) on her before the snow and salt.

Should I
1. Put her up on jacks and change the oil in the spring.
2. Change the oil before the strict 3,700 mile interval.

Is it necessary to bring the car to the dealer to honor the warranty ?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

My friend bought his last week, it had 40 miles on it, and he already been in VTEC in it and only has about 250 miles on it now. I think he's stupid, but he says he doesn't care. Oh well. i guess we'll see what happens.
