Put order in on Feb 1 and received Vin# on Feb 24 and had car shipped to me on Mar 1. Was told that 4 weeks is near the minimum one can expect so was very pleased.

I know some others waited nearly 3 months for delivery.

Well it took me probably 15 minutes to order my S2000.

Then it took about 1-1.5 month to get it in. That was back in Oct. May be quicker now.

I gotcha beat, it took me 5 minutes to close the deal on one coming in!

I did a survey of dealers to find one that had the color I wanted and the price I wanted. Then I made my decision and closed the deal and with a phone call that lasted 5 minutes, trade and all!

They told me 2-3 weeks, and it basically took 3 weeks because a holiday was involved.

Some other dealerships told me 2-3 months if I was holding to the color.

This time of year, I would expect the waiting list to be a little longer...

Just a little info to all of you that have "ordered" an S2000. The dealers are allocated units, they are not "ordered." Unlike other manufacturers Honda does not do a build to order car. Your name is not on the ticket as the car rolls down the assembly line.

What really happens is the dealer is allocated a VIN and is told roughly when the car will be built. If any salesman has told you that they have put in a special order for you then he is pulling your leg.

This is what happens in the US, it is probably different in Japan being that the have something like 140 color combinations.

In those allocated "units"...How do they know they are getting a red, black, yelow, etc.....My dealer says he will receive two silver in May and a red in June...my car is the red...Is he guessing or does he know? I would be interested to know if I am being held hostage till June and then says,,,oops we got blue, etc...just to get me take whatever arrives....

anybody know how that works?

When I ordered mine, my salesman was able to show me his allotments for the next three months and what color they were. If you want another color than that which they are allocated they usually can trade with another dealer. Depending on how far out the order is they may not have a vin for the car. Basically you are just placing a hold on a particular car whose color etc has already been determined by Honda.

One cool thing about BMW, (and other European Mfrs) is the Euro Delivery, which really does allow you to spec your car. It actually saves you about a grand of of the purchase price AND the car is insured and registered for a month in Europe. In addition shipping is paid for and the car is insured during shipping. Think of the rides on the Autobahn and trips to the Nurburgring.

Back to S2000 ... mine was built on 3/21 and shipped on 4/10. I placed a hold on it on Feb 15th. I 'm anxiously awaiting the call....should get it bxt this week and next.
