Default Warantee and Oil consumption

Fellas -

What is the standard warantee...i.e. how many miles and how many years?

Also, I didn't get a manual when I bought the car. How much oil goes in. 4 quarts, 5 quarts?

I just bought it, and It was 2.5 quarts low.

Thanks,

Bart

WOW 3 years 36,000 2.5 quarts sounds like trouble. You didn't check the oil level before you bought it?

The standard warranty is 3yrs./36,000 miles. So on an '02 you have a 50/50 chance that it has some coverage left (assuming miles are <36k).

It should take about 5 or so quarts to fill her up.

Did you buy this car from an individual? That is definitely disconcerting that it was that low. It is typical for these cars to burn oil, but if it was that low it means that the previous owner was not staying on top of maintence which sucks.

How did you come to find that it was so low (ie did you do a change yourself, or take it somewhere, or was the oil light on)?

Thanks for the replys.

I checked after I bought it, after tooling around in the car for about 2 hrs.

I called the guy, and never had an owners manual either. he said he put 4 quarts mobil one in it last fall.

Probably 1500 - 2000 miles since then. He only put 10k miles on it in two years. So..start it a quart or more low and put 2000 miles...equals about 2.5 quarts low.

The car was not misbehaving in anyway. Temp Gauges were all fine, and there was no oil light.

I filled it up and am going to do an oil change this evening.

As for the warantee...I missed it by 5 days. May 28th 2002. I am going to look into an extended warrantee. No need for response, I will check the warantee thread before I ask any questions.

Thanks,

bart

5 quarts probably won't fill it. 5.5 or more.

I know I'm going out on a limb here but maybe because it took him 2 and 1/2 bottles of oil to fill it?

Did he ever check the secret compartment? It's been amazing how many people don't know about this!
