Warming your car before you drive?
So when I was learning to drive in 2001, my father always told me to turn the engine on for 3 minutes at least before driving it. 8 yrs later, I still do that, especially after if I havent drove it for more than 12 hours. Anways, when I was leaving my car running and dusting it off this morning getting ready for work , my old neighbor comes up and says:
Neighbor -" black cars are sure hard to keep clean.."
me -" morning, yeah it is, dusting it while it is warming up..."
Neighbor - "Son, you don't need to warm it up, your car is new."
me -".......
"
Neighbor -" Your dad told you to do that huh, older cars in the 80s you had to do that but todays car, you dont need too, you get in and go"
Me - "ahh..."
Neighbor -"
"
Anyone of you guys warm your car before driving it in the morning or at night? I notice that when my car warms up for a little bit its less "darty" in the morning.

I always let my car warm up, I don't have an S2k (yet) but My 06 Civic Si will run like complete crap when it's cold unless I let it warm up until something registers on the coolant temp meter.
I don't think it's ever a bad thing at all to let the oil and coolant temps get warm before you go.

Letting the oil come up to full pressure before driving is a good thing, and with modern multi weight oils we have now long warm up times are not really needed. Oil needs to get up to temp ASAP so driving the car will do that sooner than idleing.. Just let it idle about 30 seconds to a miniute and drive.
you can just get in and go, but you should not rev high until its warmed up. everything should be at operating temperature before excessive strain is put on anything.
this is why they put temperature limits on vtec engagement

S2k doesnt need warmed up
Yeah, it does. The ECU will set the rev limiter to 7K until its warmed up.
You should drive the car soon as it started, no need to let it idle for a few minutes. The engine oil will get to optimal running tempature sooner and the transmission/diff will also warm up in conjunction with you driving it.
Doesn't mean you should smash the throttle, drive it nicely till it gets to 3 bars on the on water temp gauge.
