Red face Warranty Transfer?

hello,

i was wondering if i purchase a car from a private party and they have a extended warranty would it be able to transfer to my name? The person selling the car told me that he wasnt sure if the warranty goes with the car or the owner.

I am most likely going to purchase this s2000 on friday or saturday.

Thanks

juni

I would call and ask your local dealer. I know for a fact the regular 36 months/36k mile warranty transfers. I bought my car from a private seller and checked with my Honda dealer to make sure it did.

Juni. I had the same question when i bought my S from a private party. I called American Honda Finance and they said yes. You need to send them a letter from the seller stating the transfer, along with a copy of the bill of sale.

Be careful juni, there are other venders for extended warrantees besides Honda of America. Some of the second party extended warrantees offer very poor coverage, somake sure who the warrantee is with. Also, read some of the stories about denial of warrantee by Honda. That would decrease the value of any warrantee if I were buying one.

Thanks for all the help and information. I guess I will have to talk to Honda about it and hopefully they let me keep the extra year of warranty because its a definite plus if i purchase this car.

juni - i paid $50.00 to honda of america to transfer an extended warranty into my name when i bought a used S2000...... but after that you cannot cancel it for a refund and you cannot transfer to anyone else (only 1 transfer allowed).

I sold the car w/ 16k miles no it (bought it at 6k) so the entire $995 that the original owner paid plus the $50 that I paid was for NOTHING... pretty sad..... i would have had the original owner cancel the warranty had i known at the time it was only transferable once.

Scot, it cost you 50 bucks to transfer the warranty in your name? I don't think it would be to bad because im going to have to keep my S for a while so 50 dollars for a years worth of warranty isnt bad at all. So if i later purchase another warranty will i be able to transfer that to someone elses name, if i was to extend it once again?

Thanks for your guyses help

, only one transfer ($50?). Original owner has to call in to transfer the warranty to new owner. I bought the Honda-Care extended warranty and somewhere between the lines, that what it said.
