It'll require removing the hardtop but check the drains just behind the door. Push the outboard brush for the soft top hard to the inside and use a flashlight to look down into the drain "bucket". There's a hole in the bottom at the front of this bucket that may have plugged. I had water noise until a used a straightened coat hanger to clear it. Making sure that it's open (check both sides) helps prevent the $400 trunk repair I had to pay for from water sloshing over the top and getting down there.

That said, I'd NEVER had water noise with the hardtop installed. It may be that your top has damaged seals or isn't clamping down tightly enough. The drains above are for allowing the soft top to drain properly - the places where water gets into them are covered completely by the hardtop.

Well, there's really nothing "inside" the hardtop that the water can really leak into. If the hardtop was fitted properly, any water falling onto it, will fall outside of the car and pretty much away from the drainage area behind the soft top area.

Is your hardtop secure in the rear? If you sprayed water under the back window towards the front of the car, does your interior area (where the soft top is folded) get wet? It shouldn't.

Curious, is your HT afermarket or OEM? If it's not OEM that could be your problem. Aftermarket tops generally require that you spend time tweaking to get it as close as possible to an OEM fit.
