It's held on with suction cups, and I located it between the defroster vents.

Here are the pictures you asked for

I like.. I've been wanting to get a compass for my car. But some are just too bulky!

I think that's pretty cool.. I too have been thinking of an external clock because the MP3 info is always displayed... I'm too lazy to switch it back and fourth

Paul

If that compass weer located on the console would it be as accurate? One of the problems that I've had over the years is that the compass can't overcome the interference from the inside of the car.

I really like the compass, but would prefer to mount it (via suction cups) somewhere on the console. Does it have to be on the dash?

Thanks

I would think that a compass like this would be accurate on our car, especially since the hood is aluminum (non-magnetic). There are lots of cars with built-in compasses, and they work fine.

Although I think this is a good idea (I really like having a compass), IMO it really takes away from the "clean" view from the cockpit. I'd also really like a thermometer that reads outside temperature.

My wife's Toyota Highlander has a rear view mirror that has a small area just below the mirror that gives a compass reading and inside/outside temp. I would love to have something like this in my S2000. It doesn't clutter up the dash, yet gives some good info.

There are aftermarket rear view mirrors with compass and temp in them. But from what I've read they're a royal pain to swap the OEM one out.

The compass is put through a calibration routine. You mount it in the car, drive in a circle, and the unit automatically subtracts the magnetic signature of the car. I have found it to be very reliable where I have located it.

If you have located the unit at a poor location, you'll get the "distortion" symbol frequently. This indicates that there is not enough of a magnetic field to differentiate from the car's signature.

No, it doesn't look perfectly clean. But it's so useful that I don't mind it. If I want my car to look clean, it's easy to pop off the three suction cups and wipe the marks off.

The temperature isn't a concern for me, I'm only driving when I already know what it's like

you can buy a rear view mirror with a compass and a thermometer like those in suburbans and yukon for about $50. It looks much better than your cheap plastic navigator.
