With a gloomy forecast here (Wash DC) I headed out West in search of twisties and dry warm weather. No plans, just packed a bag and left.
I returned Monday 1000 miles later all smiles and with some serious wear on my tires, after driving though much of West Virginia, and SW Virginia. I would think about 700 miles were attacking one mountain pass after another.
Some roads of mention, US-250 West from Stanton VA, I actually was able to catch and pace two riders on sportbikes here.
WV 66 from Cass WV, WV 219 south, VA 16 (OMG, this is likely the funnest road I have ever driven on, 50 miles of alpine switch backs, and super tight 2nd and 3rd gear corners), VA 58 , and finally the Blueridge Parkway at night.
This is exactly what this car is best for IMO, lots of heel n toe downshifting, hard cornering and gentle touring in the civilized parts.
I only had to put the top up for 30 minutes during a brief shower Sunday evening.
The high point for me, was at the 5000 ft gap between Mt Rogers (5729 ft highest in VA) and Whitetop mountain. Can you spot my car in this picture below?
Great pics, George. Might have to join you for that next time you go (after I get some new tires) if I don't slow you down too much!
Is that anywhere near Morgantown, WV?
BTW, I was telling my cousin (cbr600) about your motorcycle club - What was that called? dcracers.com?
Congrats on finding the SUN! Sounds like you had a great trip. Nothing more fun than just leaving with no destination in mind. Oh, and did you also find Spring, b/c we keep loosing it.
