Default Weird sounds

One thing that I hate about my 2001 S2000 (besides the plastic rear window) are the stranges sounds that I'm getting when my car is between 1K - 4K RPMs.

I rode in my friends Boxster S and everywhere in the RPM zone the engine sounded like it was purring - no strange sounds.

Does my '01 S2K have the TSB problem? Can someone explain this?

Frustrated,
Mark

I get the "weird sounds" as well. But, when I look at some of the horror stories of people taking their cars into the dealer for TSB work, I think that I'll just live with it. The only thing that is really bothersome is the sound when I engine brake from 4000rpm or so. So, for now I just avoid doing that

I feel that apart from the TSB related sounds, this engine/tranny is just more raspy than other cars in its class. I have gotten used to it know - even grown to like it as part of the cars character. The TSB related decelartion buzzing is very irritating though - thankfully this is still (knock on wood) not a problem for me.

The weird sounds and the rear plastic window maintenance is getting to be a pain.

As good as the S2000 is, Honda just totally blew it when it comes to these "minor" details.

I wouldn't have mind paying a little more for those details to be worked out.

Since I'm on this topic, has anyone looked into a speciality place that can retro fit a 2 piece glass window into the S2K?

I'm on the waiting list for the new M3 coupe...

I'm kinda confused as to why the rear window is such a major concern for many owners here. once a week, I clean it with plexus. When I put the top down for an extended period, I put a cotton towel between the fold. 3 months and some 3700+ miles later, the window is just fine.

As for the noise... well it is a 4 cylnder that's rev'd to incredible rpms(for a production car). My LSD whines(mechanical), the car isn't as quiet as my maxima, but it IS a sports car after all....

I don't think Honda blew it in the details. I am SURE Honda is as careful with this cars as a Civic if not more. The priority of this car is different... it's not about creature comfort. I am sure Honda could just as easily made a that would fit a 3 liter V6 6500rpm red line, 55/45 weight distribution, glass rear window, more leather than a Lexus, navigation, as quiet as they come, etc etc... I guess my point is, the expectation of this car should be different than that of an Accord or a Civic. If one is to expect a nice quiet ride with all kinds of creature comforts, this is certainly the wrong car.

I'm still not convinced...check out the ITR - 4 cyclinder and no weird sounds.

Why can Porsche/Mazda or even a freakin Chrysler Sebring Convertible can do it and Honda can't?
Honda S2K == Weird Sounds.
