The '04 sounds like a real horn.

The 2004 is a "meatier" design and is louder. It is a dual-freq, dual horn setup.

I do not know if previous years also were two horns or just one.

Some people have updated to the Hella duals you can buy from Griot's and other sources. I retro-fitted these to my Outback, and now when I hit the horn, people pay attention instead of that anemic "meep meep" that sounded like the Road Runner with a head cold.

I rarely use the horn, but when I do, I want it to be loud and hearable over the noise that passes for sound in a lot of cars, cell phones, and drugged out operators. I want something to cut through stupor.

Probably the manliest horn I've heard on a Japanese car. It sounds closer to a Buick Roadmaster than a Honda.

I've done this conversion and it's one of my favorite mods. Yes, it sounds like a real horn, LOUD with a nice deep tone to it. No more "squeak, squeak". It's more like, "BLAM, BLAM".

It's a 15-20 minute install if you have a MY2002-03. MY2000-01 will need some wiring done.

I had the Hella Supertones. They sounded nice but it wasn't plug & play. The '04 horns use the same connectors, wires, relay(s) from your car.

Well worth it

No, don't change our beloved stock horn! It sounds awesome! Very Japanese/Import sounding.
Sports cars with "wimpy" horns (i.e: Ferrari) don't have to prove anything, you already know they'd take your average car on the road to school.
