Default what to do?

at the moment i own an st205 celica gt4, ive owned and s2k in the past and love the sporty feel of the car and the fact its convertible, ive come into som ££'s so my choices are as follows:

keep the gt4 build the block, bigger turbo and aim for 500whp

buy an S go FI and aim for the same as above

I love the looks of the s2k and as above the sporty feel but i like the fact that the GT4 is AWD and will actually put this power down. I live in the uk so the weather is cold or wet for about 60% of the year and the car will be DD.

I was absolutely set on the S untill the other day, i went to a car meet with a mate in a 430bhp 200sx, it rained leaving the road slightly moist and practically ruined the whole day for him! even in the dry he struggles with the power.

so just looking for opinions really, to help make my mind up.

Cheers

RWD + good tires + smart driving = no problem in rain or even snow. I'd happily trade the security of 4WD for sharper RWD handling, even if it means having to pay more attention when the road conditions turn worse.

sounds like its not as much of an issue as i thought then, i was thinking to go supercharged rather than turbo as this seems to be the better option for traction aswell.

That's exactly what I was about to say. I'm assuming the 200sx was turboed and probably running serious boost... Of course, it's going to be a handful. Aren't people trying to snap those things up for drifting BECAUSE they're a handful?

I have never owned a vehicle with FI, but...

SC is predictable, controllable, and more easily tuned than a turbo. Overall, i think it's the cheaper option for the S too. From everything I have read... Turbo+F20/F22= BOOM Plus, when you're down in the low end, just driving around town, you won't be stressing your engine with unnecessary boost.

yer it does seem to be the cheaper option, not by much though the mase turbo kit seems like good value.

dont think they go boom, there is allot of guys running turbos on stock block runnnigh 500-700whp!

i think for me though SC will be the better choice!

Im still undecided though, it is good fun being able to lanchi and just grip and go with the awd of the celica, wish i could have both! or and awd s2k!

You'll go "boom" on either if it's not tuned properly. The main difference is that SC has a more linear boost curve than turbo so the power will come on more predictably, prolly better for poor road conditions.

No offense, but why build your DD to have upwards of 500hp when you live in an area with craptastic weather?

Buy an s2000, build it mildly or go all out and buy a cheap reliable DD.

I will agree that S2000 + wet or icy roads = trouble.

i call it my DD but i guess its not really, i live walking distance to work so what i really mean is it will be my only car, if it was off the road or required work for a week or so it wouldn't be the end of the world.

weather here in england is crap but that doesnt mean I cant enjoy powerfull cars! the question really was is there any point going for high power rear wheel drive car when the weather is so crap or should i just stick to my awd car?

i guess its not a huge issue though as s2ks even FI dont produce big torque figures ad thats what loses traction.

Cheers
