Default what to do about insurance?

so i havnt been on the board much here in the past few weeks due to the planned site upgrade, and also to the fact that recently my top got slashed and my seats were stolen .... car was parked at a friedns house for the evening in what i thought was a nice neighborhood..... wrong. came out and the door was open and i saw what the damage was done and i about threw up....

well heres my deal. ive never had to deal with something like this before so i wanna know a little before i have to deal with the insurance. i had just an oem top and oem seats. i got an estimate from my friend at the dealership on what he thought parts and labor would be. and here is my thinking.... is it possible for the insurance company to replace the soft top with a hard top for lower possibilities of this happening again? (that is if it is around the same cost).... because when i got the car they asked me if it had a hard top... possibly for lower rates, i dunno. or will they just cut me a check on the amount and tell me to get it fixed at my whim? i dunno like i said ive never been down this road before, and i know i dont wanna go down it again. i guess this is just more of motivation to put in my alarm i have in the garage....

any imput will be nice. thanks guys!

oh and eff you theives!!!!!!

What your insurance company will do MAY be influenced by whether there's a lien on the car or not. Sometimes they won't cut you a check because you might not repair the lienholder's collateral. If you own it free and clear, they might.

They will more than likely just send you a check for the damage and let you apply it as YOU see fit. That's my experience with my old motorcycle and my Honda Prelude.

Using a hard top does very little to prevent seat theft.

There is no upper or rear side frame to retain the side window (like most convertibles). The window can still be pulled back, and the thief can reach right in and open the door.

Slicing the soft top is just the easiest way.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

i live in columbus ohio.... and yes there still is money owed on the car.

i know the theives got into the car just for the seats cause they didnt touch the $600 reciever or the w7 with custom fiberglass emclosure or amp or wheels or intake or anything else like that.

what is the difference in cost of a soft top + installation and hartop + installation? and what is average retail on oem seats from a dealer is my question? just so i know so i dont get joo'd by the insurance company....

For the softtop + installation, probably a thousand.
For the hardtop? Thousands.
For the seats? Thousands.

Unbelievable. When will these theives get caught and set an example for other low lives?

Sorry to hear, I know how it feels to have your personal property violated.

I think a new soft top is about $1,500.00-$1,800.00 installed.

I know the new seats will cost $8,000.00 - $9,000.00 for both.

Sorry to break the bad news.
