What do you guys do when you get a flat tire?

Anybody know if there are any run-flat or self-sealing performance tires that fit on the S2000? I was just wondering since I remember hearing that the Corvette and Z4 come with these tires.

You don't have an owner's manual?? You need to get one and read it. Would you go skydiving without learning how your parachute works first? OK so maybe that's an extreme comparison, but without the manual, you don't know your car. Obviously.

I've managed to have two flat rear tires during the three years I've owned my S2000. In both cases the tires were not repairable. The second time I ran over something on the freeway that made a 1/4" hole so the air came out real fast. The tire is designed such that it protects the rim somehow, even at freeway speeds, but it shreds the sidewall in the process. It's very annoying to have to remove two tires at the side of a busy freeway when a rear goes flat.

It has not been mentioned in this thread yet, but if you have to replace a rear tire that has more than maybe 1000 miles on it, you really have to replace both rear tires or your car will be unbalanced. I replaced one rear at 2500 miles and the car would pull slightly to one side or the other when switching between acceleration and deceleration for the remainder of the life of those tires. As soon as I got a new set the car tracked straight and true again.

"Fortunately" with the second flat, I only had 300 miles on the tire, so I only had to replace one.

I also have had 2 flats in my (almost) 3 years of S2000 ownership. What a pain in the ass they are with this car - at least for me! Nobody in my area carries the S-02 which made things worse. I now carry a portable compressor and tire gauge all the time, sometimes a spare S-02 if I'm going out of town. Check the pressures much more often now .

The first one happened to be a major right-rear puncture on the interstate while out of town, wasn't repairable - fortunately I was only a 1/4 or 1/2 mile from the nearest Honda dealer and just limped it there where I had 2 new tires installed at 3600 miles on my car (Honda recommends replacing the 2 rears at the same time). However I had to order my tires from TireRack (they ROCK!) and pick up my car a week later. Drove a rental for a week !

The second one happened at work, about 25 miles from home - picked up a nail, again this one was not repairable, left-rear tire this time. It was still holding air for a while, so I used my compressor to pump it up and get to a tire place. This was only 3,000 miles after the first puncture so I just replaced one tire.

Fortunately I didn't need to do the Honda procedure of putting the donut sparte on the front and the front on the back.........but it's a very good thing to know in case you get a flat rear. The rear diff is very sensitive to tire pressure........

True, true! Actually my Cooper has 16" run-flats AND a spare tire donut under the trunk . The Cooper S is different though because it has the center outlet exhaust and the battery mounted in the rear

I completely agree with djohnston.

S2Kay, go to the following web site and order yourself an owners manual, they are something like $35 and I would say worth their weight in gold. I can not imagine owning this car and not having a manual! Many of us have also bought the Service manual from Helm because of the thirst for details.
