Default What do you think?

I'm looking at picking up a 2004 s2k with 22500 miles on it. The guy says he bought the car brand new and used it as his daily for a year and a half, but now he needs another type of car. (not a roadster)

I've seen the car, taken it for a test drive, carfaxed it (clean), made an offer (accepted) so now its just a matter of getting enough guts to sign the papers!

If i do decide to get this car , which is most likely the case, what should i look for when i take it to a mechanic for the royal "inspection" ...A friend who owns an s2k recommended a leak down and compression test.

Looks like the rear tires need be replaced asap as they have been worn down pretty far .. maybe 1/4 inch of tread left .. maybe less (he says they're the original ones!)

So to you all experts out there , what do you think? is 22500 a lot of miles for a 2004?

Are there some precautions i should take?

thanks in advance[CODE]

That is quite a few miles for a 2004... but that's still pretty low for a used car. What was the offer, may I ask?

The fact that the car has over 22K miles on the original Re050's is a good thing. It supports the theory that he did not drive the car too hard. Most people with 04's and > average between 15K-18k.

If the price is right.....then I'd go for it.

He said the guy drove it for a year and a half......so 15,000 + 7,500 = 22,500....right on average for a daily driver.

"22500 miles for a year and a half" is about 15k/year, and the rear tires are original with some treads left is telling you that the owner is very easy on the car and it is mostly highway miles. Mine is '04 and it has only 10.5k miles after 1.5 years and the rear tires have less than 4/32" treads left. I may be able, at the most, get another 2k to 3k miles of the rears.
If you bought it for $25k or less, it is a good deal. After purchase, you may want to change all the fluids: engine oil + filter, gear lube, transmission fluid and clutch fluid.

I'd go for it if the price is fair. 22,500 miles isn't bad for 1.5 years of driving and the car will last for many, many more miles beyond that.

IMO it also depends on whether you intend the car to be a daily driver or a garage queen. If you want a pristine garage queen, then go for something with lower mileage. Otherwise, don't be scared off by the fact that it's actually been driven.

Wow! Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Some really good points here!

Additional Information...

I walk to work , so the s2k will be my main car , but it will be heavily garaged and only driven when i want to scare my girlfriend with the engine noise. (she wondered why it was so loud when we took it for a test drive)

I'm buying the car for less than 25k so it seems like this is a great deal!

Any more comments?

Thanks again everyone!
