What does AP stand for?

AP is a model designator. 1 or 2 indicates the engine within that model type. Those same digits in other Honda model VINs represent the same things.

Not really. A lot of the AP2's outside of the US still had the F20C until 2006.

AP is the chassis code (it's not an acronym for anything, if the OP is wondering) 1 and 2 (or any other number) indicate a version or revision.

Sorry, I read that definition off of that section of a Honda VIN chart. It said "Model, Engine", but it could be just simplifying things for this US only VIN chart, which includes all Honda models for the US.
