Default What does s2000 stand for?

I know this may be the stupidest question anyone could ask, and I'm even laughing at myself for asking it, but I don't care. I was always told and thought it was because it came out in 2000, but then I read its because of the 2.0 liter engine. But I honestly don't know what s2000 stands for or where it came from.

Please feel free to insult and flame, then answer

Thanks

Yeah I thought it was because it came out in 2000 for Honda's birthday. As for the S, not sure, sport maybe?

The 2000 is for 2000cc's, which is 2.0 liters. Their first car was the S500 with a 500cc engine. The S2000 is just a member of that family.

It has not been said exactly what S means except it's a line of Honda Roadsters. The number is as stated (except for the ruination next year) of the displacement of the engine.

Well while we are being picky the car came out in 1999, so it is definatly NOT for the year it was built.

Honda also says that it is a 2-liter engine, so they round up. Otherwise it would be 1.997-liter engine. The name would also have to be S1997.
