Default What to drive, what to drive...

My Suzuka is three weeks old, 750 glorious miles, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. The weather in southern Ohio has been perfect during that time (about the only positive thing about drought) for top down driving, and you were all right, not a day goes by without a positive comment from complete strangers.

Here's a dilemma. I need to drive to upstate NY this weekend (9 hours). Weather should be pretty good, cool at night, but nice during the day. Should I take the S2000? How does it "wear" mile after mile after highway mile? When I had a 99 Miata I drove with the top down on the freeway for 6 hours at the most, and I was pretty tired at the end. Highway driving... boring!

My other ride is a 2002 BMW 330ci. I would love to take the S, but I think the 330ci may be better suited for a 9 hour highway drive (hardwired V1 may help too). If you were in this situation what would you take?

Suzuka Flyer.

This is a hard one. The S would probably be a whole lot of fun, but 9 hours going and 9 hours coming back is a lot of time. You should probably take the BMW and save the S for the fun drives.

I recently did an 18 day, 4100 mile roadtrip from Dallas to the northeast. It began with two days of 9-hours each, and ended with three days of 9-hours each. The only time I felt tired was the end of the second-to-last day, and that was only because I did several runs of the Dragon that morning. I had the top up for the highway parts. I personally find the car perfectly suited for long trips. Very comfy.

It woudn't be tough for me... that 330ci was made for cruisin'

I wish I had your dilema. I take the S2000, 95 Cavalier (snow car) or a 93 Accord (wife's car).

Personally, I can't sit in the S2000 for more than an hour straight - it gets way too uncomfortable. The longest I've ever been in it was about 1.5 hours (from the Bay Area to Sacramento) and I started to feel cramped and annoyed by the noise (wind and engine). Don't get me wrong - the S2000 is the funnest car I've ever driven, but I just can't stand sitting in it for too long. I think the 330Ci would be better suited for a long drive - it would be much more comfortable.
