Keep in mind the prospect that a new '05 runs 30K plus title taxes and licensing, fees, and more taxes.

I was thinking it was more like 25K, considering you can have a brand new one for 29K.

I sure hope it's not worth 25k!! I wouldn't have much of an asset with my 01 if that's the case.
Here in Seattle, one of the big dealers has 6 on the lot (yeah, maybe that amount says something) listed at $38k each. I am sure they aren't stuck on that price, but they go through cars quick enough to bother listing them up that much. I would NEVER pay that much, because I know it can be had for less.
New MSRP is about $33 (not including taxes, license, etc.). It's still less than 1 year old, with a few miles. I would guess $29k as well. However, 06 around the corner with a rumored TCS so I would wait for that (maybe a bit of markup at first, but that wont last long).
Edit: Yes, in the right part of the country with the right dealership, you can get a new one for maybe $29k (short of tax and license of course). If you're willing to ship, look around the country for one! I got mine from PA and had it shipped in a closed carrier for $1500. Even after that it was cheaper than comparable cars in my area.

I guess you are also looking on autotrader. The one that is being sold by Honda World Downey? They offered me a 05 brand new for 400 bucks higher. Btw, the difference in insurance is so small it doesn't matter what year you buy.

Theres also an 02 GPW with 40k going for 19k in Santa Maria. Great price IMO and you get the red seats.

You can pick up a new s2k for $29.5k give or take a hundred. Buying used you're still subjected to all those fees
