What is the fascination with Drag Racing?
In my experience, drag racing types generally haven't gotten the art of cornering and braking down very well, but they sure know how to abuse a clutch and tranny to make it accelerate fast. But then again, I can't launch worth a damn. It feels too abusive to my car to try dragging from a launch...not to mention that it's not the S2K's forte, anyway.
The whole street racing thing was one of the worst aspects of Supra ownership...I had to listen to all these roadkill stories, and lots of people wanted to race me. Sure it could have been fun, but spending the night in jail & having my car towed (as happened to some friends who got busted) wouldn't be. So I went to the dragstrip once, and I discovered lots of opportunity for improvement.
Never went back b/c shredding curvy/hillly roads is a lot more fun, and less stressful to the car, IMO.
Like Randy, I've found the friendliness to be much greater in the autocross events than in the drag racing scenes. Autocross is competitive, but its not uncommon for your closest competitor to help you out w/ advice, setup, etc.
My $.02...
