MY oldest bro is going to take over my loan (my current mustang) so I can start fresh off debt (for some hours ) and i'm REALLY going to try all my best to get an S2000 ('00) for 20k.... But I did come across a few 98-99 Porsche Boxters for around the same price (18-20k) and now I really don't know what to get....

The reason why these two are my top choices for my next car is because....

1. I always wanted a convertible (live in the perfect city for a convert).
2. Want a 2 seater car (don't plan on having kids ANYTIME soon)
3. Want something above 200 stock HP
4. Good handling.
5. Respectible

Here's a s2000 that I could afford....

Here's a Boxter I could EASILY afford....
http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=1...olor=&cardist=4

Please gimme all your input PT!

<3 Ya!

Worst come to worst, i'll get a Lexus IS 300....

wrong forum, this should be in car talk.

It depends on what you want to do with the car.

Plan on autox or tracking it, S2000 for sure.

Just cruising around town. Boxster, its softer and easier to live with.

BTW I wouldn't get a car with that many miles. (Boxster 71k)

I've got a 2001 silverstone s2k w 27.5k kms. I'm asking #36998 Cnd. Check out my thread "for sale! 2001 silverstone s2000 w black interior". It's in great shape. If you're interested, we'll figure something out.

Another thing to think about is cost of ownership. I'd guess a Boxster would be more expensive to maintain than an S, but I could be wrong. If you're barely getting by, go with the one that'd be cheaper to OWN, not just cheaper to BUY.

Watch out for the RMS (Rear Main Seal) problem. This is about a $1,200 repair and occurs about every 20,000 miles. Visit Porsche Pete's site (ppbb.com) to get a good idea of what you will face.

The Boxster at 71K miles is definitely an issue. Repairs on these things are expensive! It's also is a Boxster and not a Boxster S so it will be way under powered compare to what the chassis can handle.

of the two an s2000 would probably be more your budget, if the s2000 is a little pricey maybe even a base TT conv, or a 2000 z3 are more in your price range. Of the 4 if you have the means if you dont have lots of maint. money the s2000 is the most practical

just my .02

After I drove both, there was no question. The S engine sounded better, the ergodynamics were better, and it put a smile on my face. No question about it in my mind. Of course you are on an S board. I assume you have asked the same question on the Boxster boards???
