What I want...
Is a combination of the ignition key and remote.. I'm sick of the remote dangling against my knee!
I wonder if this is feasible, I don't really feel like disassembling my extra key and remote to find out.

Some mercedes have these....The key has the buttons built-in to the top of it....pretty cool....
As far as taking anything apart, just remember that your key has a chip inside it that the ignition has to sense before your car will start, so dont break anything!!!

My Audi has the same thing as the Mercedes (we call it a switchblade key). It's kind of cool to have, I suppose, but I don't know that I would go out of my way to make my own if I had a different car.

Just take the remote off the key chain when you drive. There are these key rings that snap on/off easilty.

Wonder how much of a pain it is to get an extra key + remote? This is probably just a pipe dream, but the remote dangling and hitting my knee is my main complaint with the car - which is an indication of my happiness

I quit carrying the remote a few weeks after I got it. I just don't lock the car. I usually leave the top down since I park in parking garages. Even if the top is up, I would rather someone just steal something in the car that to cut my top doing it. I don't see any point in locking a convertible. Maybe if they made Kevlar fabric tops . . .
Dave, I considered that, except part of my problem is not wanting just the little key - losing things and whatnot. Locking it isn't really a big issue I guess, my CDs and other valuables are mostly kept in the trunk, although I keep my (film) camera in the secret storage compartment. I lock the center console when I park it anyway, although that lock would take about 15 seconds to defeat.
