Reading through this thread, I see good reason for calling us 'special'. We chose a car that's pretty deficient in creature comforts or manners. it's not even all that fast, but it'll carve up a road - scalpel, indeed! We don't care that it's rough and noisy. In fact, we like that about the car. We just shrug it off as the price we gleefully pay for a car that's more an extension of our bodies than the common conveyances in which most people plant themselves. The destination is antithetical to the point of driving this car - we lust for the time spent getting to the next one!
Well put. This is exactly how I feel about my S2K.

I don't think you can classify S2000 drivers into any one category. I see young people and ricers to seniors andeveryone in between the wheel.

When the S2k first came out, it was old guys who enjoyed a sports car. Now it's just a bunch of ricers with fart cans.

Agreed. I consider myself a driving enthusiast that values the razor sharp handling, 9K RPM redline, sublime shifting, looks, etc. over bluetooth, smooth automatic transmissions, heated seats, etc. A curvy back road, top down, exhaust screaming, no traffic and no where to be is ideal to me.

I think that describes many S2000 owners. Of course, there are owners that just want a good looking roadster, the "hellaflush" crowd and others that may not "get" the S2000.

Razor sharp handling - that's one of the key elements of this car. I added bluetooth - in this day of perpetual communication, one can't live without it in a car with a manual transmission (and what a sweet transmission this car has). Whether it's a curvy back road or and on/off ramp, this little beast eats it up and I feel very much in control thanks to all that road feel. Honda got the formula right. This car has impeccable handling characteristics that I have no desire to mess around with via suspension mods and the like.

At 50, I guess I'm in the older crowd. I wanted a sporty roadster (mid-life crisis car) and looked at a few others, but once I drove the S2000 I forgot about all of the others. It doesn't hurt that it has a very shapely body - timeless to my eyes. Add in Honda reliability (I've had 5 other Hondas (2 of those were CRXs) which logged a total of a million miles - field service) and I can't imagine a more perfect roadster/sports car.

We're a special bunch, but we aren't crazy!

I do all my own work because when i first bought the car, MY05, it had a rough idle and being as i had literally just bought it i took it to the dealer and they took it back and looked it over for about 45 min. when they came back they asked me what kind of car i drove before. i asked why and they told me exactly this, "well you see this car is designed for performance handling and has a stiff suspension which is going to make it feel like it is running roughly when you are stopped." i told them to give me my keys and i left. changed the spark plugs and the oil and it runs perfectly now. i have always done my own work and that was my first and last meeting with the honda service advisor.
