to clarify wannabuy's statement... id have to say... never drive beyond the limits of yourself... the equipment can do A LOT... its usually the driver that cant handle it or doesnt have enough experience to handle it

Also, there is the problem of people driving giant SUVs that don't look down far enough to see us. This is especially common when they are on the phone.

Of course, it might help if we weren't trying to zip around them at 90 mph.

On the other hand, if they would use a turn signal before they changed lanes, we wouldn't be trying to zip around them, on that side anyway.

this is only true because after an accident has occured you most likely end up hitting a stationary object . under nominal conditions (i.e. dry, good visibility etc.) one *root* cause of multi-vehicle accidents is because of the large differences in the relative speed between the vehicles. believe it or not, having speed limits is a very inefficient method of moving traffic and because some people always want to go faster speed limits both prevent and cause accidents.

oh, and i agree that most S (and car) accidents are due to driver error

That's just about what I was going to say.

If I had a nickel for every story where someone curbs their car after spinning out while turning, or spinning out in a rainstorm I'd be richer than Bill Gates.

Do the Z3, Z4 and Miata groups gripe about this?

Lifiting off the throttle (or even braking) while turning probably causes more spin-related crashes than too much throttle.

Also driver error.

Takes training/practice to avoid this one, though, as it's counter to instincts (and FWD experience) to stay on the throttle when you sense you're carrying to much speed in a turn.

For one who drove in the rain on bald tires, and paid the price. I can say that I will be using the wife's car for rain driving most of the time, and more hard core about tire replacement.
