Well TJS, I'll tell you what I just told someone else around your area....ask the insurance how much the damage is so far. Contact a lawyer and see what their opinion is on it and if they would total it out. All it takes is for your lawyer (or even you letting them know you talked to a lawyer and want it totaled out) to give them a call and let them know.
I got this totaled because of that:
it had $18K damage and we told them we wouldnt make payments on a car that should be salvaged. They totaled it out 30 mins later after telling them what the lawyer said.
I wouldnt want to make payments on a new car that's been re-welded back together and the engine removed. It'll never be the same car again. I dont care how good of a shop it is!!

You definately do not want that car back. The resale value is as wrecked as the car now. Get the ins company to total it and get a new one. You do have a say in this. I would never want a car that has the frame welded back together.

Looking at that car, i would say it isn't a total. Working in a body shop i've seen cars a lot more mangaled than your car get fixed. What everyone is forgeting is that the value of the car is around $32k. Most insurance companies total out a car at 80% of the value which is $25,600. That car has a lot less damage than that, i would say $18-20k at most.
